With the success of the Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service we now manage hundreds of patients and their families throughout Yorkshire and beyond. We require more space and improved facilities. |
That was our motivation to design and build a new unit. With the concept approved and with excellent support from the Bradford Royal Infirmary Hospitals NHS Trust our designs have become a reality. The Listening for life centre is unique in the UK having under one roof facilities to assess and support patients who have significant problems with their hearing.
We are able to serve communities across Yorkshire and the North East have developed an excellent link with education and in the Shears Foundation Lecture Hall we are able to have workshops for parents and professionals, play groups and the interest in music groups is increasing.
Since the centre opened numerous other Cochlear Implant units have visited us.
We are also proud to have hosted a number of national and international meetings and be able to be one of the UK centres for the global live surgical conference LIONS which took place in May 2009.
Whilst the main fabric of the building has been completed we still have a way to go in obtaining equipment. With your support we still need to raise some £300,000 to complete this development.

Here are a few examples of specific costs and items for the new Centre, which we are inviting individuals, community groups, companies and trusts to sponsor. (There will be opportunities for naming and recognition for those sponsoring the Appeal.)
The Ear Trust Listening for Life Centre will be able to significantly increase the number of people seen who have severe to profound hearing loss. The Centre will also enable the Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service to work more closely with families, community and educational services by providing:

Specialist supra-regional assessment and testing facilities, including three specially designed paediatric soundproof booths and two for adult use

Family-orientated consultation and rehabilitation rooms

A 50 seater education and conference facility and library
